Perpignan, Pyrenees Orientales and Languedoc Roussillon Real Estate Office

Coast and Country is the perfect name for a real estate agency offering you French property for sale from our Perpignan office in Roussillon. From the coast with long sandy beaches, to the country of fruit trees and vineyards. Roussillon is a magical corner of France which visitors do not want to leave.

Roussillon is the other half of the French Region of Languedoc-Roussillon, now officially just called Languedoc. However, the names have a history going back thousands of years when they were two different countries. Hannibal, on his way to sort out Rome, stopped here for a while and the town of Elne is named after Elenor, the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine.

Today the differences between Languedoc and Roussillon are still charmingly apparent. Roussillon is a Catalan province and has more in common with Spain than with France, Roussillon was a part of Spain until the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659 . The language, Catalan, is still taught in the local schools and is becoming increasingly popular.

Perpignan is the chief town of the region and the Prefecture for the department of Pyrenees Orientales (66). In 1963 Salvador Dali said the railway station in Perpignan was "the center of the universe" as he always got his best ideas sitting in the waiting room.

Perpignan is only 10 km from the Mediterranean and close (well under 2 hours) to the ski centers of the Pyrenees. The new TGV rail link will bring Barcelona closer than 90 minutes travel door to door.

Property around Perpignan is varied and interesting, all is charming. Coast and Country can offer you an excellent selection of homes, from Villas in villages overlooking the plain of Roussillon, to charming medieval town houses in the wine growing villages inland.

On the coast there are some delightful areas. This fertile region with over 300 days of sunshine each year is perfect for wine and fruit. Tourism is an important industry but the success of agriculture means the character of the towns and villages is never compromised and the quality of life is kept high.

In the south of the region, from Collioure, the road to Spain hugs the corniche . Wonderful wines which are made from grapes grown in the almost perpendicular vineyards, which sometimes need to be harvested by climbing ropes.

The country offers you many charming and individual villages. Artists have come to this region to use the light and the colours in many exciting ways. The modern art museum in Ceret has the largest collection of Picassos’s ceramics and Colluire was home to many artists and is the birthplace of the Fauvism. Matisse and Derain discovered Collioure in the summer of 1905.

Coast and Country will help you to find the perfect property, we will also make sure all your transactions, legal and financial needs and the services you need to you new home are sorted efficiently.

Importantly Perpignan is great for shopping and watching Rugby

There are direct flights to Perpignan from London Stansted, Birmingham, Manchester and Southampton.

From Liverpool and Blackpool Airports it is possible to fly to Girona Airport in Spain, which is only an hour and a half from Perpignan. Alternatively Toulouse Airport is around a two and a half hour drive away.
