Founded as a Greek colony during the 5th century BC, the commune of Antibes is full of some of the most historically rich, architecturally interesting and naturally beautiful areas on the Côte d'Azur. Still surrounded by the walls of its 10th century fortifications, its old castle now houses a number of cultural attractions including the Absinthe, Picasso and Archaeology Museums. Port Vauban is also an excellent place to visit. One of the largest marinas in Europe, it has been used as a natural harbour since before the Roman Empire and is currently home to some of the most opulent seafaring vessels in the world.
Best explored on foot, the old town centre with its narrow streets and attractive squares, hosts countless intimate boutiques, restaurants and cafés as well as a number of workshops where you can see local artisans creating a menagerie of curios and art pieces. A walk through Thuret Park or the Eilenroc Garden will reveal why they attract tourists in droves. Exflora Park, famous for its size, has Islamic, Mediterranean, Italian, Provencal and ancient Roman style gardens as well as panoramic views of the iconic Mediterranean coastline.
Situated to the west of Antibes on the shores of Golf Juan, Juan-les-Pins presents a faster paced offering to its guests. Founded in 1882, it has developed into a major tourist resort and is well regarded for its casinos, nightclubs and night shopping. During the 1960's, Juan-le-Pins began to establish itself as something of a playground for the rich and famous. Today the area hosts a variety of jazz festivals, antique shows and festivals of music and theatre.
