Real Estate Cabris: Houses and Villas for Sale
Cabris (you pronounce the "s") is a well-maintained historic village built on a rocky outcrop to the west of Grasse at an altitude of 550m, which ensures summer temperatures that are rather easier to support than on the coast. The village was built around a feudal castle dating from 997, the ruins of which can be seen from the Place Mirabeau. These ruins reflect the rebuilding that followed the Black Death in 1500 and subsequent destruction during the French Revolution. Cabris has a church dating from 1630, Notre Dame de l'Assomption, as well as several ancient chapels from the 16th and 17th century all of which contain interesting features. The narrow streets, best visited on foot, provide evidence of this historic past with their tall medieval houses and cool passageways, while still being full of life. Spectacular views of the French Riviera are available from Place Mirabeau where an orientation table allows you to recognize features running from Nice in the east, past Cannes and the Isles de Lerins, to The Lac St Cassien and further west. The qualities of Cabris have in the past attracted many figures of French cultural life including Antoine De Saint-Exupery, André Gide, Albert Camus, Marcel Pagnol, and Jean Marais. Cabris possesses several fine restaurants of which one of the best known is the Auberge du Vieux Chateau near the church. An attractive feature of Cabris is the large grassy open space known as the Petit Pré where there is a market every Friday morning from 7h to 13h, as well as numerous other events such as antique fairs, the Arlette Grusse Circus, etc. A large number of activities are available in the area. For example if you would like to take a 45 minute guided tour of the village this can be organized through the Mairie (town hall). For those who like hiking the well-known GR51 route known as the "Balcons de la Côte d'Azur" passes nearby. Golfers have numerous courses to choose from including Claux-Amic which is a short distance away towards Grasse. Property available for sale in Cabris include village houses with prices ranging from 250,000, to luxury villas costing several millions. For those looking for a 4 bedroomed family home of around 200m² with a good view (countryside to distant sea and or lake) either as a primary residence or holiday home, a budget of around one million euros should enable a good choice around Cabris.
