Houses for Sale in Grasse

When looking at houses for sale in Grasse you will almost certainly come across such names as St Francois, St Jacques etc. These refer to what are almost separate villages within the commune of Grasse, usually taking their name from ancient chapels. The areas of  St Jacques and St Antoine on the southwest side of Grasse are particularly sought after because of their proximity to the express road which means the Nice-Côte d’Azur is less than a 30 minute drive away. Both these areas have family houses for sale in the range 500-800,000€ often on plots of land of 1500m² or more. St Antoine also boasts one of the best hotel-restaurants in the area with the Bastide St Antoine.

Further to the north at a higher altitude, bordering the communes of Peymeinade and Cabris,  there is St François which is probably the least urbanized area of Grasse with a rather rural feel with its splendid cypress trees. Here there is some considerably more expensive property on large plots of land, often enjoying a superb panoramic view down to the sea. A drive along the Route de St François and successive roads reveals some of the historic estates of Grasse (such as the Villa de Noailles and its fabulous gardens) as well as some attractive recently built houses. Budgets here tend to be well over a million euros.

To the east of Grasse center, St Mathieu and St Jean are other areas with interesting houses for sale including several old bastides – a reflection of Grasse’s agricultural past. The only problem with this area is that access to the expressway is not as easy as in other areas to the west. However, Sophia Antipolis can easily be accessed via Plascassier, which is one of the most distant “villages” of Grasse , where you can still find the famous centifolia rose.

Leaving the center  towards the northeast you go through part of the old Domaine Rothschild which is a relatively urban area with numerous smaller houses on small plots of land, but often with good views, some on sale at under 600,000€.  You then go through St Jean and arrive in Magagnosc, the last part of Grasse before Chateauneuf. Again some family houses with spectacular views but often at reasonable prices in comparison with St François.
