The commune occupies a surface area of nearly 1000 hectares of which around 50% is either woodland or agricultural land. While in the past agriculture was the major activity, in particular with the cultivation of the rose for the perfume industry of Grasse, the economy is now more diversified with tourism playing an important part. There are also numerous antique shops and artisans situated around the old town and there presence reinforces the cultural interest of the village. Historically La Colle sur Loup was part of Saint Paul de Vence, but with the enlargement of the latter La Colle became an independent commune in 1792. While its neighbour St Paul is better known, La Colle has much to offer in its own right. |
