Real Estate Mouans-Sartoux: Villas and Houses for SaleMouans-Sartoux can be considered as a modernised Medieval village in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the south east of France. It is located on the plain between Grasse and Cannes, to the north of Mougins. The old town is laid out in the Lerins style of symmetrical rectangles like that of nearby Valbonne. Mouans-Sartoux began as the village of Mouans, located at its current emplacement, and the village of Sartoux, located on the hilltop of Castelaras (about 1 km to the east). Both villages were deserted in the Middle Ages because of plague and general insecurity. In 1496 they were both repopulated by decree. Pierre de Grasse, the lord of Mouans, brought 60 families of "Figons" over from Genoa and rebuilt the village at its current location. In 1858, the two villages were joined by Napoleon III to form Mouans-Sartoux. The economy of Mouans-Sartoux was, for a long time, based on agriculture: mainly vines and olive trees. In the 18th century, the breeding of silk worms was important and in 1738 the land register mentions the presence of mulberries in several districts. More recently various plants such as jasmin & the centifolia rose have been cultivated for perfume, a few fields of which still remain. It is said that Mouans-Sartoux is a village of "fêtes". In April there is the "corso fleuri", or procession of floral floats, welcoming the arrival of spring. Then follows a succession of other events including a book fair, pottery markets, gastronomic fair, winter santons exhibit and many more. In the summer evening events (concerts, films etc…) are held in the park of the 16th century Chateau, which has a very unusual triangular form with 3 towers and an interior courtyard, and contains various contemporary art exhibitions. There is also a modern cinema/médiathèque complex showing some films in there original language. Recently the “Bastide du Parfumeur” was opened on the Mougins border, in which a botanical garden has been laid out to provide a unique olfactory experience, partly in tribute to the areas history as a perfume center based around Grasse. Living in Mouans-Sartoux you benefit from a life style of a working village in Provence while being only a short distance from the high life of Cannes and the Riviera in general. Around the old square by the chateau there are numerous restaurants where it is a pleasure to dine in the evenings. Numerous village houses are for sale in the area at a reasonable price. In the outlying areas there are villas ranging from the reasonable to the extremely expensive; indeed two of the most prestigious residential domains (Castelaras and the Redon) are situated on the commune.
