Real Estate Nice: Villas and Apartments for Sale
Nice is France's fifth largest city and thanks to its beaches, cultural attractions, fine dining and exciting nightlife, remains one of the country's favourite tourist destinations. The city has a universal appeal and tends to attract backpackers and more seasoned tourists in equal measure. Though it is an extremely attractive city, Nice does not share the same sense of exclusivity as many of its neighbours and is certainly an ideal starting point for people searching for more affordable property on the Cote d'Azur.
Perhaps the most famous destination in Nice is the Promenade des Anglais, which stretches for 7km around the gently curving Baie des Anges. The famous walkway is always in bloom and is a favourite with tourists and residents alike. It is a great place to take a morning stroll or a romantic walk and it provides access to the town's shingle beach. The promenade is dominated by the Hotel Negresco and the neighbouring streets host a variety of art museums and galleries, which are well worth exploring.
The centre of Nice is widely recognised to be the Place Masséna, which looks, and indeed sounds, like it should be in Italy. Since the introduction of the new tram system, the square has been reclaimed from the automobile, and once again functions as a public space and is a regular venue for various concerts and festivals. The Place Masséna also acts as something of a cross roads for the city, it is two minutes walk from the Promenade des Anglais and gives access to both the Jardin Albert 1er and the Avenue Jean Médecin, the city's principal shopping street.
The principal square of the old town is the picturesque Place Rossetti. Completely enclosed by buildings, the square is home to the Cathédrale Saint-Réparate as well as a range of fine restaurants and ice-cream parlours. The square has an ambience that is more akin to a medieval village than a regional capital, and this is a trait that is common to the rest of the old town, whose irregular and winding streets are packed with shops and shoppers, intimate restaurants and bustling market places such as the Cours Saleya.
