Located approximately halfway between Cannes and St Tropez, Saint Raphael is a large yet attractive seaside resort that also functions as the cultural and economic centre of eastern Var. The town benefits from exceptional transport links; it has its own mainline station and is located on the A8 autoroute, making it easily accessible from the airports of Marseille, Toulon, Nice and Avignon.

Despite being heavily damaged during the Second World War, the town has made a steady recovery and although it cannot equal the old world charm of many of its neighbours, it certainly boasts some very attractive qualities. The town is rich in culture and is home to the Museum of Prehistory, which documents the ancient history of the local region and boasts a fascinating range of objects discovered during numerous underwater excavations. The town also host a number of events including the celebrations of St Baume and St Pierre, Mimosa week, various Jazz festivals, and a medieval style jousting tournament.

St Raphael’s greatest draw however is it natural surroundings, the commune has a total of 36km of Mediterranean coastline, 60km² of protected natural forest and lies at the foot of the Esterel mountains. As such the opportunities for outdoor pursuits are almost endless. Inland you can go hiking, horse riding, cycling and climbing, while the sea offers sailing, swimming and scuba diving.

St Raphael itself is something of a local centre for sailing, the town has no less than five different harbours, and the extensive and varied coastline is a pleasure to explore. St Raphael also has four large sandy beaches, one at the city centre, which is called the Veillat, one at Boulouris, one at Le Dramont, and one at Agay, while two smaller beaches can be found at Anthéor and Le Trayas.
