Real Estate Vence: Villas and Houses for Sale
It is a virtually impossible task to describe why one Provencal town is more beautiful than another. Perhaps that is why the enigmatic but humble little commune of Vence has so inspired artists and writers like Dufy, Matisse, Chagall, Dubuffet, and D.H Laurence. Maybe it is the favourable Mediterranean climate providing for the array of flowering plants that grow rampantly throughout the town. Maybe it's the simplicity of the seemingly endless orchards of olive and orange trees that garish the lush countryside. Or perhaps, it is the remnants of the 13th century wall with its five gateways that have been artfully preserved. Whatever the reason, Vence is certain to awaken the artist in anyone fortunate enough to travel there.
Situated in the Alpes-Maritime department of France, the natural splendour of Vence has become world renowned for its serenity and the subsequent inspiration it provides. The water in Vence comes from a little river named La Foux. This crystal clear mineral spring is available through a system of fountains found throughout the village. Perhaps the most delicious of these sources is one that has been used since 1822 in Place Peyre where people are known to line the streets just for a taste.
The epicurial delicacies of Vence are also legendary. There are generous opportunities for visitors to sample indigenous fruits, cheeses, wines, olives and herbs available in its bustling food markets. Two such opportunities for culinary delight are Place Clemenceau and the garden at Place du Grand. Both of these locations are also great for taking in the local culture with its shaded squares and flowered terraces.
Due to its natural beauty, it is no wonder that Vence has been home to some of the most prolific writers, painters and sculptors who have ever lived. As a result, Vence offers galleries with works of the vast number of artists who lived, worked and died there. You can also visit The Chapelle Matisse, Henry Matisse's creation, among the ash trees at Place du Frene. Further on at the Belvedere Fernand Moulet you can get a glimpse of the Baou des Blancs and Baou des Noirs. On the hills to the left of Baou des Blancs, pause for a moment and simply take in the breathtaking views of the ruins of Château de la Reine Jeanne.
In all, Vence offers wonderful opportunities for visitors and many often consider making it a second home and with inspiration close at hand Vence is a perfect location to start anew.
